Santa Caterina Market

Since its reconstruction was completed in 2005 this market has become one of the main tourist attractions in the old part of Barcelona. The architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue respected the side walls of the premises to build a new one with a roof taking its inspiration halfway between Gaudí’s work and the surface of a fish, held up by undulating metal columns and wooden beams. Inside, the new wide passageways house traditional shops And new businesses that show the market’s commitment to high-quality produce: there are shops specialising in oils, vinegars and salts, greengrocers offering more than 20 different varieties of tomatoes and four bars and restaurants with a huge range on offer. The market has also kept up with technology and offers Wi-Fi connection throughout with an internet shopping service with home delivery in all the shops. It is a real market of the future.
