Port Vell (Old Harbour)
With the holding of the Olympic Games in 1992 the Old Port of Barcelona underwent a process of reconstruction that continued for most of the decade. For some time there had been little of the former maritime activity and the changes were intended to give a recreational use to the port and to bring visitors to the fishermen’s quarter of Barceloneta. Beside the pedestrian area sporting and tourist boats are to be seen. In the middle of the port cultural and leisure complexes have been built such as the Aquarium, the 3D IMAX cinema and the Maremagnum shopping mall, which contrast with the old buildings of the port such as the Clock Tower and the small fish market, the last witnesses of the fishery, and the Cable Car (1931) that connects the port and Barceloneta with the mountain of Montjuïc.
